At least one person is dead as the result of an aircraft that crashed at Aspen-Pitkin County Airport some time before 1 p.m. today, Pitkin County Sheriff Joe DiSalvo confirmed.
The airport is closed as emergency crews respond to the scene. The aircraft was a private jet, Undersheriff Ron Ryan confirmed.

Fire truck and ambulances were on the scene within minutes. I don't believe there are any survivors.

The aircraft was a private Canadair CL-600-2B16 Challenger 601-3R that was coming from Tucson to Aspen, according to the Aviation Safety Network. The flight originated in Toluca, Mexico.

A 1994 Canadair Challenger twin-engine business jet crashed on landing at Aspen/Pitkin county Airport in Colorado today at the end of a 2 hour 8 minute flight from Tucson, Arizona. The flight track for N115WF is available here:

Weather at ASE the time of arrival was reported to be wind between 10-18mph, clouds lowering from 4600ft to 3700ft, visibility lowering from 9mi to 7mi in haze, temperature 12F/-11C.
